Momentum Children’s Charity

About Momentum:

Founded in 2004, Momentum was born as a way to battle the struggles that many children suffering from cancer deal with, as well as easing the strain upon their families. Working in the Paediatric Department of Kingston Hospital, Momentum’s Founder and CEO Bianca Effemey saw first-hand the difficulties these children and their families were facing, and set out to make a difference however she could. Starting with a small gesture, Bianca purchased a fridge-freezer for a little girl’s hospital room, allowing her to have cold drinks and ice lollies to help ease the pain caused by chemotherapy – with ulcers throughout her mouth. This small gesture of kindness highlighted what Momentum really stands for – helping children and their families in a way that really makes a difference. Since then, they have come to the aid of countless families across South West London, Surrey and Sussex.

Events:

Since 2020, we have partnered with Momentum in several different ways to bring smiles to as many families as possible. As you know, at Cake Owls we specialise in celebrations – especially children’s celebrations. Momentum works with around 240 families with children facing cancer or another life-challenging condition and up to a further 100 bereaved families, so that no one has to face their journey alone – what better way for us to support as many families as possible? 

Halloween 2020 was when it all kicked off. We contributed 160 cupcakes to Momentum, which were delivered to 40 different families by dedicated volunteers.
